Spanish - Grades 7 and 8

Acquisition of a new language should feel natural, comfortable and accommodate to the individual needs and diverse learning styles of each student. Instruction in Spanish will require the teacher to speak Spanish at all times. Two hours per week will be devoted to Spanish. During one of those hours, we pay particular attention to "listening and practice"- intended to build vocabulary gradually. Listening and practice can take the form of a cooking class, a merengue lesson, a role-play, story telling (in translation), a mathematics activity, etc. During the second hour (on a different day), we focus on grammatical concepts (e.g., gender, verb conjugation, etc.)

As students gain knowledge of Spanish vocabulary, they will be encouraged to use Spanish words, places and people into visual arts, fictional stories and/or projects they produce for other subject areas.
