The French program adheres to methods of study used in the text and workbook entitled Elans I which is divided in two parts. Each part entails four units.

Aim

Our aim at VOICE is to help our students gain an understanding of the French language through music, role play, written exercises (see below Elans II), short compositions and oral practice. We strive to speak french at all times during classes and activities.

Other subjects will be integrated into the French program such as French songs, study French personalities, and finally, students will be given the opportunity to reflect orally and in writing on philosophical issues related to global education. Throughout the school year, we will remind the students that to learn French is also to learn about various cultures.

Part I

The aim of each unit is to foster knowledge in each of the following areas:

Chapter one:

• introducing and describing ourselves
• expressing our likes and dislikes
• applying masculine and feminine qualitative adjectives
• writing interrogative sentences

Chapters two, three and four:

• conjugating in the imperative mode
• telling a story in the present and past tense
• expressing a wish (conditional tense)
• inquiring about someone's favorite hobbies and collections.
• justifying one's actions
• recognizing various categories of information
• asking the same question in different ways

Part II

The first chapter will address such topics as:

• prepositions
• components of a book review
• how to express appreciation
• how to make comparisons

The second chapter will address such topics as:

• food (i.e. various locations where we have meals, articles, adverbs, food groups, and recipes).
• various objects (i.e. how to identify and describe them, what is their use and who invented them).

In each chapter of Parts I & II, students will learn new vocabulary and expressions related to the theme or topic under study.
