Basketball News

Our girls' basketball team faced tough competition against Crestwood Prep last Tuesday. Players Jane Gerster and Sidey Deska-Gauthier feel that the team is improving with each game. They stated, "the Crestwood coach said that we were the toughest team they have had to compete against yet." Exceptional effort girls! Final score? 28-26 for Crestwood. So close!

On Thursday, we played Waldorf and exhibited strong team effort and an improved commitment to defence. After falling behind early in the game, Voice rebounded with a well-executed game plan in the third quarter closing the gap to just four points. The final score was Waldorf 34 – 20.

Next Tuesday, the girls’ team plays Linden at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, (Yonge & St.Clair) before taking a well-deserved break until November 11, when they play their final game against Willow Wood.

Special thanks to Alan Simmons, Darlene Pellman, Geoff Vernon, Lorraine Deska and Cathy and Rob Wilson for volunteering to drive the team to and from games this week, and for all of their help during and after games.

***Parents: Important information about our upcoming Cross Country Meet taking place on Monday, October 27th was sent home today!

"VOICE'S VEG OUT"

The Voice Culinary Arts Club will be having their 1st (student driven) lunch fundraiser on November 10th, 2003. Our talented chefs will be preparing vegetarian dishes from around the world. Some of our creations will include: Bruschetta, vegetarian baguette sandwiches, Greek pasta salad, sushi, garlic bread, lentil salad, and a variety of other tasty treats. We are inviting all of the staff and students to join us on this momentous day. As we are committed to a greener earth, we will only be using recyclable/reusable eating utensils and dishes. To cover the costs of the ingredients our chefs are asking that each attendee pay a fee of $6.50. A letter will go home shortly with regard to this event.

Note to Parents from Mr. Taylor

For those of you that have not had the chance to meet me, I am the Physical Education, Global Studies and Math teacher at V.I.S. I have a unique connection to your children that some of you may not know about. I had the privilege of learning in a global education classroom when I was a grade 4 and 5 student. In that classroom, I learned life lessons that have played an important role in governing my teaching methods today. Now I have the opportunity to have the kind of impact that Marie Lardino had on me as teacher. She continues to be one of my role models. I continue to learn from her, the other dedicated teachers at Voice and most of all, your children. Consequently, I have been able to watch your children as they grow into informed political activists, researchers, film makers, city planners, cartographers as well as leaders in the classroom.

I welcome your comments and feedback throughout the year. Although, I am not at Voice on a daily basis, I look forward to hearing from you. The best way to contact me is via e-mail as I can access it at anytime, [email protected].

Thank You.

Mr. T.
