Welcome everyone back from March Break!

Parents/Teachers Meeting

I am holding a meeting with parents and teachers designed to address various issues such as general homework load, projects (independent and group), communication, sports, volunteering, etc. The meeting will take place on Thursday, April 8 @ 7:30 pm. I have decided to hold similar meetings next year at the beginning of each term. Your input is critical and valuable to us if we are to make each year a success. Hope to see you all there!

Uniform

The school has purchased various sweatshirts in girls' sizes. They are white, zip up style originally designed for Roots. The girls seem excited about this addition to the uniform. Sweatshirts are $46 and can be purchased through Ms. Fortuno.

HEP. B Vaccine - Gr.7

Parents don't forget that the second Hep. B dosage will be administered on April 21, at 9:00 am at Bellefair. If you think it might be necessary for us to give your child Tylenol in the afternoon, please send a note to the school indicating your permission.

Sports - by Coach Jeff

The Winter Sports program at Voice was a major success. The Boys Basketball team had a tremendous season finishing in a tie for second place in their division. In the playoffs, they turned in a winning performance under very difficult circumstances and conditions. However, their opponent was credited with a one point win. Congratulations to our boys on being true champions and representing Voice and our commitment to sportsmanship. The Girls Volleyball team finished a strong season in fourth place out of seven teams, a remarkable season for many first time players.

The Spring season is upon us and the teams are already practicing. There are no league sports in the Spring term, allowing for several one-day tournaments. Dates of those tournaments are listed below. If parents are available to drive on these dates, please contact Coach Jeff at 416.691.7643 or 416.994.7643 or leave a message at the school.

If you are able to donate or loan any equipment for our sports program, it would be greatly appreciated. Items needed include hockey helmets and gloves, sticks, orange balls, soccer balls, softballs, baseball bats. Together we can continue to build a successful sports program for our school.

A Message From Mr. Taylor

I understand there have been some concerns surrounding assigned homework during the March break. It is important to clarify that the integrated Global Studies/Math project that was assigned on January 5th had a due date based on negotiation with both classes. It was decided that the project would be due on March 10th, 2004. Closer to the original due date, the general consensus seemed to be that all groups would benefit from an extra day or two to work on the project. The due date was then pushed forward to Friday March 12th, 2004 (the last day before the March break). On Wednesday March 10th a few groups approached me and asked if it was at all possible for them to submit the project after the March break. Because this request came from students, I decided to allow the extension. As it seemed unfair to give some groups and not others an extension, I decided that any groups that were not yet finished could submit their project on the first day back after the break. In any case, if students chose to work and meet with their groups during the break, it was a group and/or personal decision as the project was originally due on March 12th, 2004 (more than two months after the project was first introduced).

It is important to note that this project is the only group project in mathematics that the students have completed this year. After speaking with both grades 7s and 8s, I have decided to limit the amount of group work assigned. I remain flexible and encourage open lines of communication among students, parents and me. In order for us to continue to be successful it is essential that we work together as a team. I am committed to making the final term of the school year one in which we can all enjoy. If there are any constructive suggestions that you would like to offer please feel free to contact me via e-mail, as I am not in the school on a daily basis.
