Centre Island Trip - June 12
If you are a new parent, you can pick up a form when you drop of your child at V.I.S. on Thursday morning.
Uniform Fittings
A reminder to new and returning students that uniform fittings are taking place at the school from now until June 30. Karsuh Active Wear needs to have the order complete before the deadline if uniforms are to be ready for September. Please make an appointment with Marissa Fortuno in our office to arrange a fitting (Marissa is at the school between 8:30 and 12 noon). Should you have any further questions about uniforms, refer to the enrollment package sent to you in April.
News in Science
Dear Parents,
I am thrilled to be coming on board to teach Science at Voice in Sept! In attempting to follow in Mr. Drake's footsteps, my aim is to foster a continued love of science, while bringing it to life within the classroom! A vast number of hands-on investigations will provide the students with the opportunity to explore and experience a wide variety of practical scientific concepts and a deeper understanding of how the science curriculum relates to our everyday lives. In providing an inquiry-based program, a large amount of materials will be needed. It is hoped that we can continue to build on our growing stock of science equipment for the school. Through the efforts of our current fundraising initiative, a growing base of funds has already been allotted to the science department for September.
Given that next year you will have access to an increased number of used textbooks and therefore lower costs, we feel that it is justifiable to ask for a $40 lab fee per student in order to purchase science supplies. As well, there may be some additional nominal fees required throughout the year to cover the booking costs of various special science presenters.
If you have any questions, comments or ideas to share, please feel free to contact me or Ms. Lardino through the school office.
I hope you and your child are as "geared up" about next year's science program as I am! I look forward to a fun and very exciting year ahead! 'Til then, happy summer,
Sincerely, Simmy Zaret
Yearbooks
Our yearbooks will be distributed on the last day of school to students who want to purchase them. The price of the yearbook is $17 and well worth it since it displays hundreds of colour and black and white photos. A million thanks to Bonnie Jamieson and Nicole Bemister- Lardino who spent long hours for consecutive nights working on the yearbook. Thank you to Judy Kalyan for assisting as well. I hear that this yearbook is even better than last year's!
Clean Up Day
Remember that June 13 is the last day of school and our "clean-up day". All students are required to bring a large garbage bag to school. Your child will be dismissed at 12 noon once we ensure that his or her items are out of the school.
Building Renovation
TD Canada Trust and the Ontario Govt. came through with a substantial, low interest loan! As a result, our school will undergo a significant renovation this summer. We intend to square off the main floor of the building in order to turn the current kitchen space into a large classroom. The classroom addition will have 14ft. ceilings, large windows. and double glass doors, making the room an adjoining space to Rm. 1. Our architect is taking into account Simmy Zaret requests and is making the room "science friendly". It will be equipped with high display shelves, a small sink and lab. It will be used on a rotary basis between grades 7 and 8.
Videos of Performances
Sue Brophey wants me to remind everyone that the videos of this year's performances are ready and will be at the school on Monday. There are still two videos felt. Thank you to all of you who purchased videos, and especially to Sue Brophy who created them for us. The proceeds will go toward science supplies.
A Message from Ms. Webb
